The University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Theatre and Dance will be closing its 2005-2006 Theatre Season with Robert Bolt's masterpiece A Man for All Seasons, opening on Friday April 7th. The play is a dramatic portrayal of the life of Sir Thomas More, sainted by the Catholic church for refusing to acknowledge the divorce of King Henry VIII from Princess Catherine as well as the King's subsequent naming of himself as the head of the church in England. One of the first true men of the enlightenment, More would not betray his conscience though it meant being named a traitor by the king, imprisoned, and executed. The play stands as a testament to the will of one man who would not sacrifice his personal beliefs because of political and social pressure. As More himself noted, "In things touching conscience, every true and good subject is more bound to have respect to his conscience and to his soul than to any other thing in all the world beside."
The cast of A Man for All Seasons is led by longtime UAA faculty member and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance Tom Skore in the role of Sir Thomas More. The cast is filled out by student actors Jon Minton, Charles Madsen, Danny Jones, Adrienne Eberhardt, Aron Johnson, Anthony Oliva, Jill Yarbrough, and Nick Byrne. The local acting community is also represented by actors Mike Branson, John Maltas, Missy Williams, and Sasha Kalachevskiy.
