Alaska SeaLife Center CEO to speak at UAA

Dr. Ian M Dutton, president and CEO of the Alaska SeaLife Center, will be hosted by the Biology Department from 3:30-4:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 in the new ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building (CPISB), Room 120.

Dr. Dutton joined the SeaLife Center in December 2008 after working in conservation and academia throughout the Asia-Pacific region for more than 25 years.  He is a geographer with research interests in climate change adaptation, marine conservation, environmental planning and performance measurement and integrating social science with ecology.

Dr. Dutton will speak on “Alaska SeaLife Center: Research directions and opportunities for collaboration.”

The Alaska SeaLife Center is the world's northern-most research aquarium, with a wide array of laboratory and live animal care infrastructure and a talented and diverse staff of scientists, educators and technicians.

The Center attracts thousands of  visitors per year and hosts a wide range of formal and informal education activities.

Over the past decade, the center has built a world-class reputation for marine mammal and seabird research and is now evaluating research priorities for the period 2010-2020. His talk will explore ways the center can work more closely with UAA.
