UAA Guitar Ensemble in Concert April 30

The University Guitar Ensemble presents its competition program in concert Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. The Ensemble first performed the competition program at the April 2006 Guitar Ensemble Festival, held recently at the University of Texas Brownsville. In that event, UAA Ensemble performances won three awards, including a second place in the Trio division. The program includes adaptations of the Andante and Allegro from Vivaldi’s Concerto in G for guitar quartet, and Variations on La Folia by Corelli, written for guitar duo. Ensemble member Nevada Start will be joined by guest artists Cecelia Frey, flute, and Amanda Elfrink, viola, for a performance of a Rondo in D by Francesco Molino. On a lighter note are stylistic compositions by Mertz and Kleynjans, and a whimsical Pastorale and Carillon by John Duarte. From Latin American literature, the ensemble will perform Brazilian folk dances by popular composer Celso Machado, and Laurendo Almeida’s version of La Cumparsita for guitar duo. The Ensemble is under the direction of UAA Department of Music Professor Rozanne Wilson-Marsh. Tickets are $10/$5/$2 in advance, available at the UAA Fine Arts Building Box Office (786-4849), and $15/$10/$7 at the door the day of the event. For more information, please call 786-1698
