UAA presents Anchorage’s own folk favorite, Bearfoot By: Staff Mar 24, 2008 Local band returns home after an extensive national tour
ANCHORAGE, AK – The UAA Concert Board is proud to present an energetic concert by Bearfoot on Friday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium. The band returns to their home state after several big shows throughout the Lower 48. This will be one of Bearfoot’s first shows in Anchorage since the band’s sold out 2006 CD release party.
The band’s Web site describes the group as “…a fast rising, young acoustic band…featuring powerful, emotive vocals, moving arrangements and instrumental excellence backed by solid rhythm. Their unique sounds range from traditional bluegrass to original jazzy compositions and have captivated audiences across the nation.” A truly Alaska grown band, Bearfoot originated from a group of music camp counselors working in Cordova.
With their most recent recording, Follow Me, the band shifted their musical direction. They dropped “Bluegrass” from their name and have ventured out in the world of acoustic Americana. Their recording features a majority of original songs, and it is obvious that their singing and musicianship has matured significantly from their last album. Their beginning as a bluegrass band still shows through as they play the fire out of their instruments on up-tempo numbers like the title track, Follow Me.
Tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for UAA students (with valid UAA ID). Tickets are available online at www.uaatix.com. For more information or to arrange an interview with the band, call Zac Clark, Concert Board Coordinator, at (907) 786-1210 or zac@uaa.alaska.edu. For more information on Bearfoot visit .
