Study Abroad & Exchange Programs
Study Abroad & Exchange ProgramsIMPORTANT! To maintain your admission status at UAA, receive resident credit towards your degree or certificate, and use qualifying financial aid to help pay for your program, you must coordinate your study abroad experience through the Office of International Affairs (OIA). UAA offers programs in over 55 countries around the world through our exchange partners and study abroad affiliates. The language of instruction may be the local language, English, or a mixture of both, even in non-English-speaking countries. Options vary in type and length and include: Internships Service learning Intensive language and culture studies Short-term faculty led programs With so many choices, it is important that you begin exploring your options nine months to a year in advance to find the best match. Advance planning is especially important if you are hoping for scholarships as some competitions have very early deadlines. Your first steps are to attend one of our study abroad information sessions and meet with your Academic Advisor. Sessions are offered frequently throughout the year (schedule posted at www.uaa.alaska.edu/oia/events.cfm) to give you a thorough overview of the basic information you need to begin planning for study abroad or international exchange. Fall and spring Global Opportunities Fairs, feature a multitude of study abroad opportunities to further encourage your explorations and to help you make the connection between an international educational experience, academic programs, and your career choices. Our UAA Education Abroad Program Links document (click on highlighted document name) provides you with a list of countries where you can study, as well as information about which international exchange or study abroad programs offer that particular destination. Take a look at the list, then use the links below to navigate to the appropriate website for more information.
