| Biological Sciences professor Dr. Frank von Hippel discusses the traits of a three-spined stickleback to students in the field. |
A division of the University Honors College, the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) bridges the boundaries between learning and discovery. It is devoted to undergraduate accomplishment through inquiry, discovery and creativity across all disciplines and within a global community of scholars.
Fostering inspired teaching and engaged student learning, OURS advances the involvement of UAA students in research and creative activities—whether they be independent or with UAA faculty.
OURS supports a wide variety of opportunities for UAA undergraduates, including nine campus-wide award programs, an annual Undergraduate Research Symposium and the University Honors College.
Any UAA undergraduate student can and should take advantage of the resources OURS has to offer. Why would a student reach out to OURS?
- To engage in undergraduate research with a faculty mentor
- To ask important questions and learn to solve new problems
- To pursue an interest in chosen discipline(s)
- For the prestige of recognition in the form of scholarships, fellowships, internships and awards
- To take full advantage of the opportunity to learn that an undergraduate education offers
- To take the first step toward post baccalaureate education and career goals
