Parasca Science Research Award

This award supports a significant undergraduate research project in any area of science or social science. The award will fund up to $4000 for project expenses plus a $1000 student stipend. Funds will be awarded to offset research costs such as analyses, supplies, equipment, software, surveys, and/or travel. Research must be under the guidance of a faculty mentor. This award is funded by a generous donation from Dorin and Argentina Parasca.

Deadline: Proposals should be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship no later than 5pm on February 8, 2008.

Eligibility: Students must be accepted in an associate or baccalaureate degree program at the University of Alaska Anchorage (any campus) and must be enrolled in at least three credits each semester for the duration of the research (with the exception of the summer semester).

Submission: Submit application cover letter and proposal to the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship in Rasmuson Hall 119 by 5:00 pm on February 8, 2008.

The recipient will be notified by early March. Award is contingent on approval by the Institutional Review Board, the Animal Rights Committee, and/or other committees as appropriate.

Criteria for Award: Submissions will be judged on the clarity of the proposal, the intellectual and scholarly merit of the project, the significance of the project within its discipline or community, and the evidence that the student can carry out the project.

Awardee Responsibilities: Recipient will (1) present their project in a public forum and (2) submit a final written project report to the Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship at the end of the spring 2008 semester.
