The Pacific Rim Conference is held every spring on the University of Alaska Anchorage's main campus centrally located in "midtown" and home to about about 20,000 students. Anchorage is a sprawling city of about 260,000 and is surrounded by mountains to the east. Average temperatures in March are 34 deg. F. (1 deg. C.); be prepared for ice, snow, and cold with a warm coat, gloves, hat, and footwear.
The main campus is about 7 miles from the Ted Stevens International Airport. Due to the small nature of the conference, we do not reserve lodging or transportation for presenters, but bus and taxi services are available, and several rental car agencies are located at the airport.
Lunch will be provided both days of the 2008 conference, in addition to a reception and refreshments throughout the day. Several dining options are also available in midtown and on campus. A local favorite is the Moose's Tooth, featuring gourmet pizzas and local beers on tap. The UAA campus offers the Lucy Cuddy Dining Center for lunch entrees, a Starbucks and other coffee stands, Subway, and a cafeteria.
We are happy to make recommendations on travel, accommodations, dining, and local attractions.
