The current work plan for the Council on Scientific Research (CSR) is to facilitate, with CAFE, the interdisciplinary research themes committees. Each committee will compile information to ascertain what is needed to move that particular theme forward. These committees and their work will be instrumental in moving the research mission forward. The interdisciplinary research themes (see complete list at second link to the right) are:
- Education
- Environment and Natural Resources
- Regional Engineering
- Health Sciences
- Logistics
- Urban Ecology
- Economics and Business Enterprise
- Complex Systems
- Transportation
- International Studies and Globalization
- Cultural Life
- Alaska Ethnic and Minority Groups
Each committee will be charged with providing answers to the following questions:
- Where within this thematic area can UAA become a state and world leader?
- What is/are the key focus or foci around which multidisciplinary teams can be built and sustained?
- What are the particular advantages UAA draws upon in this area?
- What are some models of Institutional strengths in this area?
- What obstacles are there to building excellence in this area?
- What resources are needed to advance to preeminence in this area?
- What partnerships are necessary?
- What are the next steps?
Committee results will be presented to, and discussed by, the Council who will combine the reports into a single strategic plan for advancing research at UAA.
