COMPENSATION FOR RESIDENT ADVISORS: $8.50 hourly wage for desk duty (minimum 4 hours per week), plus room and board
COMPENSATION FOR PEER MENTORS: $8.50 hourly wage for desk duty (minimum 10 hours per week) and a $200 reduction on a single suite via University Housing & Dining Services. In addition, at the end of each successfully completed semester, Peer Mentors will receive a $550 credit to their student accounts)DURATION: August 11, 2013--May 7, 2014

ELIGIBILITY:Successful candidates must full-time (12 credits) UAA students with a minimum 2.50 cumulative and semester/term grade point average, and must be in good disciplinary standing. At the time of appointment and throughout employment, Residence Life student staff members may not be on either disciplinary or academic probation. Should a student employee be placed on disciplinary or academic probation, the employee is no longer eligible for employment. In addition, RAs and PMs are required to complete at least 12 credits each semester. Students in their senior, final semester may take less than 12 credits with director approval. As live-in, professional staff members, RAs and PMs must possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to work well as members of a team. Demonstrated leadership and peer helping skills are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience living in university residential communities and/or university leadership involvement. PMs MUST HAVE a desire to work and live with first-year students.
LEARN MORE:The Department of Residence Life supports on-campus housing for 950 students and works in partnership with University Housing & Dining Services. Our program provides leadership training, experiential learning, awareness of diverse lifestyles and cultures, co-curricular programs and activities (educational and social), and behavioral accountability. Residence Life's student development approach focuses on enriching each student's higher education experiences by delivering high quality, student-centered programs and services.
Working as either a Resident Advisor (RA) or a Peer Mentor (PM) is an enjoyable and challenging experience, and provides opportunities to gain marketable skills in human relations, customer service, time management, and team building that few other positions can offer.
The selection process is highly competitive and our applicants have fun and learn from their participation. Interested students can attend one of three information sessions. Although optional, the information provided may be helpful to students throughout the process, and may answer some questions students may have. Each session will feature a current student staff panel, and are scheduled as follows in the Gorsuch Commons:

ONCE YOUR APPLICATION IS COMPLETE:Within a few business days of completing your application, you will receive a confirmation email from our office manager. We'll then begin the review process to ensure that your application is complete and that you meet the minimum requirements for eligibility. You must have at least a 2.50 semester and cumulative GPA, and you must be in good academic, and judicial, standing with the University. You will be notified February 4-8 if you have been forwarded to the group process interview stage.
Group Process Interview:The group process interview is mandatory. You will be assigned to a group of 10-12 applicants for the duration of the interview. Your group will be asked to complete four group activities over the 4-hour period. These activities will be facilitated by a Residence Life professional staff member and a handful of current student leaders. The group process interview will be held on February 10, from 12:30-4:30pm in North Hall.
Individual Interview:You will be notified February 11-15 if you have been forwarded to the Individual Interview stage, and you will see your UAKjobs application status change from "Under Consideration" to "Interview Pending". Individual interviews will take place with a Residence Life professional staff member and two current student staff members. The interviews will last one hour, and will be scheduled between Monday, February 25-Friday, March 1, and Monday, March 4-Friday, March 8. We will verify your mailing address at that time.
Final Decisions: UPDATEFinal decisions will only be communicated via writing and will not be available in the Residence Life office. Letters will be mailed to the mailing address listed on your application the week of April 6-10. Please expect to see your results at some later this week. These letters will inform candidates of application status, which will fall under one of three categories:
INFORMATION REGARDING FINANCIAL AID:In addition to an hourly wage for Desk Attendant duty, student staff receive additional compensations specific to their roles, as detailed above. Students who use state and federal loans to cover college expenses, and who are selected for an RA or PM position will need to visit with a financial aid advisor to ensure the FAFSA data reflects this information.
