LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SAFETY

University Police Department:

The University Police Department employs full-time, professional police officers, certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council. They enforce Alaska State Statutes, investigating incidents, arrest perpetrators of criminal activity and generally maintain order on University property.

Officers also provide special services unique to the University setting. Those services include maintaining security of University buildings, providing crime prevention classes to students and employees, providing safety escorts on the Anchorage campus, vehicle and room unlocks, and vehicle jump starts.

The department is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. UPD can be reached at 786-1120 or by using one of 15 emergency call boxes placed throughout campus. Calls made from elevator emergency telephones are also routed directly to the UPD switchboard.

Call Team:

The UAA Call Team consists of student employees who enforce University Parking Regulations. They also provide jump starts, vehicle unlocks, walking safety escorts, emergency locates, and many other services to the University community.  The Call Team can be reached at 786-1147.

State and Local Agency Cooperation:

The University Police Department has established working relationships with national, state, and local law enforcement authorities. A memorandum of understanding establishes a mutual aid agreement between UPD and the Anchorage Police Department and Alaska State Troopers.

At community campuses, the college directors, in conjunction with the local law enforcement agency, have established campus safety and security procedures that are best suited to the particular environment of that campus and provide support and programming for those procedures.
