The purpose of the Great Alaska Martial Art Festival & Tournament Scholarship is to award scholarship(s) annually of at least $1000 to promote student achievement via the tenants of martial arts (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit).

Qualifications:
- Applicant should demonstrate the tenants of martial arts (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit).
- Applicant must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Applicant must plan on enrolling half-time (six credit hours) at the University of Alaska Anchorage
- Applicant must be admitted to a certificate or degree seeking program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Applicant Procedure:
- Complete the UAA 2008/2009 Scholarship Application Form
- Attach a personal essay. This essay must explain how you have used the tenants of martial arts in a community activity. Should you want to learn more about the tenants of martial arts you are encourages to be a guest of Master Yu at Champ Tae Kwon Do .
- Attach one letter of recommendation. Letter of recommendation must be from someone willing to verify your use of the tenants of martial arts in a community activity. Allow enough time for your referral to complete the letter of recommendation and submit with your completed scholarship application by the deadline date. Also please make sure that the letters of recommendation contain your full name and your student ID number if possible. Letters of recommendation MUST be attached to your scholarship application; there is NO guarantee that unattached letters of recommendation will be considered.
- Attach transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). Neither the Office of Student Financial Aid nor the Records Office will copy transcripts from any other previously attended institution(s) that may be in your admissions file. Incoming freshmen must attach transcripts from the high school they attended or a copy of their GED transcript. Transfer students must also attach transcripts from each institution attended. Continuing students DO NOT have to supply any transcripts from any campus in the University of Alaska system.
- Applications must be received (not postmarked) by May 15, 2008. All late or incomplete applications will be disqualified. Please no fancy binders, folders, tabs, etc. These are discarded and only requested materials are copied to the selection committee. Submit the completed application to:
