Joann C. McDowell Theater Scholarship

UAA Chancellor's Dr. Joann C. McDowell Theatre TuitionWaiver Scholarship*

The University of Alaska Anchorage Chancellor’s Dr. JoAnn C. McDowell Theatre Tuition Waiver Scholarship is a two semester full-time tuition waiver, twelve (12) credits per semester. This scholarship is limited to attendance at the Anchorage or PWSCC campus and to students who are formally admitted into a Theatre degree-seeking program. It is the intent of the scholarship to be granted to incoming students who are admitted in a Theater degree-seeking program at PWSCC or those students who were admitted into a Theatre degree-seeking program at PWSCC and who are now admitted into a Theater degree-seeking program at UAA.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant should demonstrate motivation, academic and leadership potential.
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing with a high school minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and/or cumulative college grade point average of 3.0.
  • Applicant must be formally admitted into a Theatre degree-seeking program at the University of Alaska Anchorage or Prince William Sound Community College.
  • Applicant must plan on enrolling full-time (twelve (12) credits) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (Anchorage campus only) or PWSCC.
  • Applicant may be a U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen, Alaska resident, or out-of-state resident.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in the semester for which the award is made.
  • Performance applicants must submit a 1-2 minute recording of a performance. Design applicants must submit a portfolio of set and/or costume designs (4-10 pieces). Technical/Management applicants must submit a promptbook or other evidence of activity or achievement.
  • Preference will be given to Alaska high school graduates.
  • Preference will be given to Alaska residents.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are not possible Alaskan Scholars or Great Achievers (this does not however limit UA Scholars or Great Achievers from applying). 
  • It is the intent of the scholarship to be granted to incoming students who are admitted in a Theatre degree-seeking program at PWSCC or those students who were admitted into a Theatre degree-seeking program at PWSCC and who are now admitted into a Theatre degree-seeking program at UAA.

*In addition to the online application, applicants must also submit the following information to qualify for this scholarship:

Technical/Management applicants must submit a prompt book or other evidence of activity or achievement.
