Refugee and Need-Based Immigrant Support Scholarship

The purpose of the Refugee and Need-Based Immigrant Support Scholarship is to provide access to public higher education, specifically courses in English as a second language (ESL), to immigrants in Alaska with demonstrated need who plan to attend UAA as non-degree seeking students and are unable to become degree-seeking students due to a lack of English proficiency.

Award amounts vary but will not exceed the cost of tuition, student fees, and books for one ESL course per student.

Qualifications:

  • Recipient must be a non-degree seeking student who is unable to be admitted due to a lack of English proficiency.

  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
