UAA's Academic Programs in Sociology

Sociology offers something for everyone and can also provide valuable preparation for many types of careers and areas of study: social work, human services, community development, political science, education and ecology are among the many fields which benefit from sociology. With a degree in Sociology, you could obtain employment in public and private research organizations, in neighborhood and community action agencies, or as a technical assistant in health, welfare, law enforcement and other related fields.

The curriculum in sociology at UAA is designed to prepare students for graduate studies in the field as well as for applying sociology in the world of work. Students can focus on General Sociology or select from one of two specializations; Family and Life Cycles or Community and Change. The specialization areas give students the option of selecting either an academic or applied focus for there degree.

At this time the Sociology Department at UAA offers coursework leading to a Bachelor of Sciences (B.S.) or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Sociology may also be used as a minor area of concentration for students with majors in other disciplines, as well as for interdisciplinary graduate work.
