Please call Darcy Hill or Shane York (786-1960, 786-1959) if you need more boxes, labels, tape. Call Tony Harkey (786-1090) if you have any questions about packing that are not addressed on this sheet.
- Individuals who must leave town prior to the move must have their office packing done prior to leaving. Office items that are not packed and ready when moving day commences will not be packed, labeled, or moved by moving crews.
- All items that are to be moved to the New Offices must have a label attached. If the item has no label, it will not be moved. Labels should be placed on 2 sides (1 of the sides must face out so the movers can see them), i.e., don’t put any labels facing the wall. Do not place labels on the top of the boxes.
- Personal items are the responsibility of the owner and must be moved by the owner. GSS suggests that personal items be taken home or put in a car trunk until Offices are available for occupancy.
- The Department Move Coordinator needs to contact Facilities and Campus Services about removing items that are attached to the walls.
- Desks, Chairs, Computers, Monitors and Network printers do not require packing, but they must have labels attached.
- Computer keyboards, cables, and mice must be banded together, boxed, and labeled. Telephone instruments should also be put in a box. This will facilitate the quick setup of Computer and Telephone services at each desk. Please label these items as COMPUTER COMPONENTS.
- Standard 2 and 4 drawer file cabinets can be moved with files inside. 2 drawer lateral file cabinets can be moved with files inside. 4 drawer lateral file cabinets should have the top 2 drawers emptied out and boxed. See graphic here.
- Clean out old files. This will help to reduce moving costs and a little Spring Cleaning will reduce the movement of Junk.
- Surplus Items need to be left in place so that we can decide how to recycle them.
- To avoid back strain, when packing put the empty box by a wall or staging area and bring items to the box so lifting is kept to a minimum.
- Please do not over pack boxes. This will cause the box to fail and may damage items it contains.
- Cartons should be securely taped shut.
- Packed cartons should be stacked no higher than 4 high.
- A Floor plan location attached to File cabinets, Copiers, Network Printers and any other large items will help expedite the moving process and reduce confusion. If file cabinets are to be placed in a sequential order at the New Location they should be labeled accordingly.
- Write labels as shown on the attached pages. There is no color coding of labels, so that will not be an issue.
- Place labels on items and boxes as directed on the attached pages of this packet.
