Can I get a prescription for birth control pills while on my parent's insurance and still maintain my privacy?
Thank you for your question, which is often asked by students. Seeing a health care provider for birth control pills and obtaining a prescription for birth control pills under your parent's insurance, would involve charges showing up on their insurance statement. If you are an eligible UAA student, you can make an appointment at the Student Health and Counseling Center for contraception management (no charge), and pay for your oral contraceptives in house (low cost), which would maintain your privacy. There are charges for any labs which you may request or need, but these may be included as regular annual exam fees. If you are not an eligible UAA student, you may want to check the Municipality of Anchorage Reproductive Health Clinic, as well as Planned Parenthood, for self-pay options.
If you are an eligible UAA student, call to make an appointment with a nurse practitioner at 907-786-4040, to discuss these issues.
