Becoming a Technology Fellow 2008
Attaining the title of Technology Fellow involves applying for, participating in, and successfully completing the First Year Technology Fellows Experience (FYTFE).

Application Phase
The journey to becoming a Technology Fellow for the 2008-2009 academic year begins with the application process.

Faculty wishing to participate in the application process should complete the application and submit it to the office of their Dean or Director by this date.
Mar. 28,
2008
Deans and Directors will evaluate the applications and provide the applications of three (3) nominees along with a letter of support for each to the Technology Fellows Coordinator.
Apr. 11,
2008
The Technology Fellows Selection Committee will complete the review of the nominees and select the twelve (12) FYTFE participants.
Apr. 15,
2008
 The twelve (12) faculty selected to participate in FYTFE will be notified by this date.
May 12 - 16, 2008
FYTFE Intensive week

Selection Notification and Arrangements
No more than twelve (12) faculty will be selected from the nominee pool provided by the Deans and Directors to participate in FYTFE. Each faculty member selected to participate will be notified in writing by the Technology Fellows Coordinator no later than April 15, 2008. The letter will also be copied to the appropriate Dean and/or Director. This should provide adequate time for all participants to make the appropriate arrangements to attend and participate in the Intensive to be held May 12 - 16, 2008. Please plan to meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the intensive.

Faculty from campuses other than Anchorage/Mat-Su should contact the Technology Fellows Coordinator to discuss travel and housing arrangements. For questions about the application process, feel free to contact the Technology Fellows Coordinator at (907)786-4486.

Nomination Phase

Each FYTFE participant must progress through the Nomination Phase before they are appointed as Technology Fellows. Participation in this phase includes:
  • Attendance and participation in the Technology Fellows Intensive May 12 - 16, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Intensive is composed of an extensive week-long series of workshops, interdisciplinary discussions, and guest expert presentations about integrating instructional technology into teaching and learning. The primary goals of the intensive are to:
    • Expand the faculty member's existing technology skills in using innovative technology to design and/or enhance instruction and/or deliver distance courses.
    • Discuss and demonstrate the effective integration of technology to support teaching and learning.
    • Create a community of instructional technology leaders among UAA faculty.
  • Design, development and implementation of a course related instructional design project with assistance from a Technology Fellows mentor, eMedia staff, instructional designers, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Regular participation in the Technology Fellows Community by attending select events sponsored by the Technology Fellows Program.
Benefits of Participating in FYTFE:
  • A $500 stipend for full participation/attendance in the Intensive which includes lunch throughout the week as well as relevant resources;
  • Access to year-long support for project development by Technology Fellows mentors, eMedia staff, instructional designers and other resources as applicable and available;
  • Invitations to select events on new instructional technologies, instructional strategies, and other current topics;
  • An additional $500 stipend for completing and presenting the final project to the satisfaction of the Standing Technology Fellows.
  • A certificate of completion for the Intensive; and
  • An appointment letter issued by the Technology Fellows Coordinator to each Appointed Technology Fellow and copied to his/her appropriate Dean and/or Director for entry into the Faculty members file.
Additionally, Intensive participants will be entered into a drawing to attend the WCET conference November 5 - 8, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ. Conference attendees will be asked to present their findings and experiences to the Technology Fellows. The presentation/documentation of your experiences can be completed in the mode of the attendees choosing. Some possibilities include:
  • Maintaining a blog/wiki detailing your experience, resources, etc.
  • Creating podcasts of the sessions or of your experience each day at the conference.
  • Presenting your experience/findings at a gathering of Technology Fellows.
Appointment Phase
FYTFE participants will receive Appointment as a Technology Fellow when they have:
  • Received a certificate of completion for the Intensive;
  • Attended/participated in select Technology Fellows Community activities; and
  • Completed their project implementation and presented their project results to the satisfaction of the Standing Technology Fellows.
An appointment letter will be issued to each new Technology Fellow and a copy will be sent to his/her appropriate Dean and/or Director for placement in each Fellows professional file. Once appointed, faculty will be eligible to participate in and apply for professional development opportunities only available to Technology Fellows.
