internationally recognized guest artists and UAA Dance program faculty.

Performers: UAA Dance Ensemble; Deandra Banie,
Chelsea Bennett, David Chapa, Steven Chapman, Lauren Gates, Andrew Hammer,
Taylor Hicks, Rique Hill
Choreographer's note: “As a collaborative artist,
I am always interested in how the performers I work with reinterpret, remake,
and remix dance. This dance, then, can be seen as a variation on a theme that
was first premiered in Birmingham, Alabama, as part of a dance installation
concert "Kinetic Canvas" performed by Sanspointe Dance Company. The
original dance was inspired by artist Dale Chihuly's enormous glass work that
hangs in the museums atrium ceiling, and also environmental concerns at the
time surrounding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. While the title, music
and initial theme stays the same I am working with different dancers who have
their own ideas, ways of moving, inspiring a whole new kind of dance.”
Blackbirds

Choreographer's note: “I had the good fortune to

inspired by their generosity and intriguing personalities. A big thanks to the
performers for their contributions of movement material and to Stephanie
Huggett who was part of our initial rehearsal process.”

Choreographer's note:"At the heart of my work is a desire to bring people together,
encourage meaningful connections, and promote the value of play as a tool in
creating a more humane world. In this first work with the new UAA Dance Ensemble
we have engaged in some serious play, following life's internal and external
pathways through a game of chance and serendipity, war and intimacy, tenderness
and compassion."
