USUAA ProgramsUSUAA sponsors numerous programs each semester that enhance the education and life of all UAA students. Although multiple programs exist, here are a few highlights! Travel GrantsThe USUAA Student Travel Grant program is funded by student fees and supports students traveling within Alaska or out-of-state avail to attend academic or leadership workshops, conferences, or to participate in civic-engagement experiences. Travel grants are awarded twice each semester. Legal ServicesUSUAA provides discounted legal services for all currently enrolled UAA students who have paid the student government fee and have a current WOLFcard. A licensed attorney will advise students with legal problems or provide documentation review. The attorney is generally available on campus every other Tuesday by appointment and may also be available by phone consultation at your convenience. Students may schedule a 20-minute appointment for a $10 fee. Leadership ScholarshipsThe Student and Academic Affairs standing committee allocates $10,000.00 each year to be awarded to 10 outstanding student leaders through a scholarship program. Recipients of USUAA Leadership Scholarships have achieved academic excellence and make meaningful contributions to the campus community through leadership and service. Student OmbudsmanThe USUAA Student Ombudsman is a student appointed by the USUAA President to serve as a neutral party to confidentially address student concerns and assist students in resolving their University-related complaints. The Ombudsman may assist a student in preparing documentation, understanding University policy, and/or coordinating mediations and meetings. Students may schedule a meeting with the Ombudsman by contacting the Administrative Assistant for USUAA. Thanksgiving Day FeastActivities committee sponsors the annual Thanksgiving Day Feast, members of USUAA and many other students volunteer to serve a full, hot Thanksgiving dinner to the UAA community. Anchorage community members have also traditionally been invited. The meal is offered for free in the UAA Commons. Late Night TutorsStudent and Academic Affairs committee coordinates Late Night Tutors originally 1 week before and during the week of final exams each semester. This program now provides tutors for mid-term exams also. FREE tutors for various subjects and course levels are available to the student body in the Student Union between the hours of 8pm and 1am each night.
