Safety training is a requirement in the modern workplace.  Not only does it foster greater safety on the employee's part, it can also inform the employee of new laws or regulations which may have changed since they last attended the training.  The University of Alaska saw a need for accessible & quality training, and responded with Skillsoft.

Skillsoft contains all of the online safety training classes that you will ever need.  Almost all of the UAA employee required training classes are among those courses (Building Emergency Plan training must be received from Building Manager or Supervisor).  The required online courses are:

-  Office Safety

-  Hazard Communication

-  Ergonomic Awareness

-  Electrical Safety Awareness

-  Back Safety

-  Slips, Trips, and Falls

-  Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals

These courses have been put together into a Learning Program so that they are easier to locate.  For a step by step guide on how to access these courses, download the following document:

If your department is looking for an alternative to Skillsoft safety training for your employees, please contact our office to schedule classroom training.

But Skillsoft can provide much more than safety training.  There are training programs on Business Skills, Certifications, IT Curricula, Legal Compliance, and Transportation.  In addition, there are training courses for just about every computer program being used at UAA.  Another great feature is Books24x7; a section of Skillsoft in which they have purchased the rights to hundreds of books covering a myriad of topics and put them at your fingertips.  The best part about this training is that it is free to employees.

If you are a student and you would like access to the Skillsoft for an educational program in which you are enrolled, contact EHS for more details.

For information regarding volunteer access to Skillsoft, please contact EHS.

Please take the time to explore Skillsoft.  It has much more to offer than the safety courses which you are already familiar with.  You will be glad you did.
