Connecting with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client (Windows)

Article Purpose

This document provides instructions for how to install and connect to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 operating systems, including both 32 and 64-bit versions. ‚Äč

Needed Materials

  • Windows Operating System
  • Internet Connection
  • Java Runtime Environment installed
  • Unified Directory username & password

Steps to Resolution

  1. Point your browser to https://anc-vpn01.uaa.alaska.edu.
  2. Choose the appropriate VPN Group for your location from the GROUP pull-down menu.
  3. Enter your UA username and password.
  4. Click Login
  5. Click the Start AnyConnect link in your browser window to begin installation the AnyConnect program. If you receive a certificate warning, click Yes to accept the certificate and continue with the installation.
  6. Once the installation is complete, you will be automatically connected to UAA's VPN. You should now see the icon, located in the system tray that indicates connection. This icon is represented by a gold lock.

Disconnecting from the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client

  1. Right-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon in your system tray.
  2. Select Open.
  3. From the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client screen, choose Disconnect. 

NOTE: The icon that indicates disconnection is represented by the globe without the lock. 

Reconnecting to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

You can reconnect to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client using 3 different methods:

  1. Log in at https://anc-vpn01.uaa.alaska.edu, click Start AnyConnect, and follow the instructions for Installing and Connecting with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client again.

or

  1. From the Start menu:
    1. Click All Programs.
    2. Click the Cisco folder to open it.
    3. Click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client folder to open it. You will see the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client program in the folder.
    4. Click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
    5. On the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client screen, choose the appropriate VPN Group Authentication Profile for your location from the GROUP pull-down menu.
    6. Enter your UA username and password.
    7. Click Connect.

Or

  1. Click on the AnyConnect globe in the system tray. The AnyConnect client will pop up. Click on Connect. A dialog box will appear asking for Group, username, and password.
