How To Setup VPN Connections For Mac

Article Purpose

In this article, the reader will learn to setup and configure their VPN access on Mac OS 10.5 or later.

If you are unaware of which version of Mac OS you have, please contact the Service Center to verify.

Needed Materials

  • ​Mac OS 10.5 or later
  • UA domain username & password

Steps to Resolution

Creating a VPN connection

  1. Open System Preference
  2. Click on Network
    1. Adding the VPN Type
      1. Click the + icon in the bottom left
      2. Under Interface select: VPN
      3. Under VPN type select: PPTP
      4. Under Service name enter: UAA VPN
      5. Click Create
    2. Server Settings
      1. Under Configuration select: Default
      2. Under Server Address enter:
      3. Under Account Name enter: your UA Username (i.e. jsmith)
      4. Under Encryption Type select: None
      5. Click the “Authentication Settings…” button
        1. Select Password
        2. Enter your UA Password
        3. Click OK
  3. Check the box that says “Show VPN Status in menu bar”
  4. Click Apply
  5. Click Connect
