Art History

The Art History Program is an integral part of the global mission at UAA.There are two facets to the program involving lower and upper division classes and the Kimura Gallery. The course of studies include a wide range of topics from entry level classes such as Art Appreciation, GER, upper division and seminar based classes. Non-Western Upper division classes include Chinese Japanese, Indian, Islamic, Latin American, African and Oceanic topics. Western studies are comprised of various areas of emphases including the History of Western Art, Italian Renaissance, Modern and Contemporary Art. The Kimura Gallery is an integral aspect of the art student’s course of studies as well as serving as an outreach component to the campus-at-large and Anchorage community. Exhibits are national and international in scope involving topically based exhibits presenting students with challenging concepts and issues relevant to contemporary global affairs.
