BFA in Ceramics

Learning Outcomes

  • Acquire understanding of application of ceramic materials at earthenware, stoneware and porcelain temperature ranges through individual experience and observation of studio practice. Understand the possibilities and limitations of the ceramics media.
  • Develop practical Ceramic Studio skills through group clay mixing, slip and glaze making kiln loading, firing, and unloading.
  • Develop conceptual understanding of Ceramic Art in connection with techniques employed in specific projects. Acquire an appreciation for the breadth of ceramic history and integrate historical awareness in solutions to projects.
  • Develop ceramic concepts through readings in the ceramic field and create a personal approach to the medium.
  • Explore and develop clay bodies and glazes for earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain production.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ceramic history through integration with projects and slide presentations.
