ceramicsThe UAA ceramics program has a long history of providing students with a well rounded education and preparing them for a career in the arts. Students are immersed into an inclusive, energetic environment where they share an active role in our studio community. In the introductory wheel-throwing and hand-built ceramics courses, the faculty teach fundamental construction techniques for functional and sculptural works.  Students gain an understanding of historical and contemporary applications of clay, as well as the technical side of the process through clay and glaze mixing and kiln firing. Advanced classes allow for the development of a course of study that focuses on personalized innovative techniques and concept development. The student club, “The Clay Body” supports extra curricular educational opportunities throughout the year such as an active visiting artist program and sending students to ceramic conferences.
