Alaska Native Arts

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss Alaska Native art history from prehistory to the present
  • Illustrate competency in using traditional and contemporary carving tool and design principles
  • Prepare and illustrate knowledge of substance cycles involved in harvesting materials.
  • Employ conceptual understanding of Native art by completing projects using techniques developed in class relevant to the visiting elders/artist’s cultural heritage.
  • Develop a personal aesthetic and design sensibility
  • Research and demonstrate an appreciation of the unique regional art developments in Alaska pertinent to the visiting elders/artists and other artists as it pertains to the student.
