Steve Godfrey grew up in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. In 2004, he was hired as the area coordinator of the Ceramics Area at UAA. As the co-curator of the Kimura Gallery and the Arc Gallery on UAA campus, he has curated numerous exhibitions such as the National Figurative Sculpture Invitational and Interface: A Selection of Contemporary Ceramics. As the coordinator of the Ceramics Area Visiting Artist Program, Godfrey has been responsible for organizing over 45 workshops with internationally known artists such as Andrew Martin, Beth Cavener, Chris Staley, Sue Tirrell, Sunkoo Yuh, and Sam Chung. Recently, he was invited to present workshops at the North American Pottery Festival at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis Minnesota and at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Beyond teaching, Godfrey is consistent in making and showing his ceramic work, participating in numerous exhibitions throughout Alaska and the lower 48 states. In 2019, Godfrey presented solo exhibitions at the Schaller Gallery in Benton Harbor, Michigan and The Signature Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.
