The interdependency of today’s world makes the need for cross-cultural understanding and communication crucial. The Department of Languages’ mission is to provide excellent language instruction, from elementary to various levels of spoken and written proficiency together with cultural literacy in American Sign Language, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish, and to promote a comprehensive understanding of cultural diversity in Alaska, the U.S., and the world.
