Academic Programs

With an impressive breadth and depth of talent at the undergraduate level, and an internationally recognized music faculty, the UAA Department of Music is a dynamic contributor to the cultural climate in Southcentral Alaska. Dedicated to providing leadership in the musical arts for the state of Alaska, UAA serves as an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Through teaching, performance, recordings, composition, publication, community outreach, and other creative and service-oriented endeavors related to the field of music the Department of Music provides leadership in the musical arts for the state of Alaska. 

Students completing a degree in Music will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate technical proficiency on their chosen instrument as well as functional proficiency on piano.
  • Demonstrate and analyze through musical literacy, the basic technical principles used in the construction of music and its basic forms.
  • Communicate a knowledge of the various musical periods and representative forms from those periods in the social, artistic and political context of each.

Music Scholarships

UAA Brown Schoenheit Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Brown Schoenheit Memorial Scholarship is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to students who are formally admitted into a Music degree-seeking program at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Award amount is a minimum $500 per academic year.

UAA Edward Rollin Clinton Memorial Endowment

The purpose of the Edward Rollin Clinton Memorial Endowment is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to full-time students who are formally admitted into a Music degree-seeking program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

UAA Friends of the Performing Arts Scholarship

The purpose of the Friends of the Performing Arts Scholarship is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other education related expenses to a full-time University of Alaska Anchorage student who has shown a proven interest in the Performing Arts. Award amount is a minimum $500 per academic year.

UAA John (Wendy) Williamson Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Edward Rollin Clinton Memorial Endowment is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to full-time students who are formally admitted into a Music degree-seeking program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

UAA Mickey Belden Vocal Performance Scholarship

The purpose of the Mickey Belden Vocal Performance Scholarship is to provide financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to vocal performance majors or vocal performance pre-majors at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Award amount is a minimum $1000 per academic year.

UAA Excellence in Music Scholarship

The purpose of the UAA Excellence in Music Scholarship is to provide financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to incoming, full-time, degree-seeking freshman who are formally admitted into a Bachelor of Music, Performance, or Education program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

UAA Music Tuition Waiver Scholarship

The University of Alaska Anchorage Music Tuition Waiver Scholarship is a two semester full-time tuition waiver, twelve (12) credits per semester, for the Fall and Spring semesters. This scholarship is limited to first-time students attending the Anchorage campus and who are formally admitted into a Music degree-seeking program.
