Reel Women Film Series

Reel Women…A Film Series,” (Reel Women) is a film series sponsored by the Women’s Studies (WS) program at UAA.  While there are many programs that celebrate different Heritage/Cultural celebrations throughout the year at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Anchorage community as a whole, there does not appear to be a specific connection to the women in each cultural group.  This is the gap that we hope this project will fill.  WS is showing one film each in September, October. and November about women, written by women, produced by women and/or directed by women.  Following each film, members of the UAA faculty and community will be on hand to carry out a group discussion for anyone who wishes to engage in a meaningful conversation about the film just viewed.  Each month the film will correspond to a Cultural/Heritage Month that UAA celebrates.  In September it will be Hispanic/Latino focused. In October a film that celebrates Filipino American Heritage will be shown.   Finally, in November we will show a film that centers on Alaska Native/Native American Heritage produced by a young Native Alaskan woman filmmaker.  This project will be continued in the Spring with three different films.  The films will be shown at UAA and be free of charge for anyone who would like to come.   This is important not only for UAA students but also for community members to be able to attend.
There is a list serve that announces upcoming films and panels.  If you wish to join the list serve, please email us at and in subject line write "join Reel Women list serve".
