IHS Externship Program

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium - Education, Development and Training Department facilitates the Indian Health Service (IHS) Externship program for the Alaska Area. As Alaska’s statewide provider of health services for Alaska Natives and American Indians, they are able to provide IHS Externs placement in facilities where they can accumulate valuable work experience in their chosen health disciplines. Individuals may be employed as an IHS extern for up to 120 workdays per calendar year. Extern assignments are available during non-academic periods.
