Growing career field

"Putting People to Work - Working With People" is a phrase that best sums up the Human Services field—one of the fastest growing career fields in the United States today. In an age of turbulent social change, there is a definite need for the skilled human services professional.

The University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Human Services offers the following:

  • Bachelor of Human Services (BHS) degree, which prepares students to work effectively in community-based human services settings dedicated to the empowerment of clients through education, paraprofessional counseling and human service practice. The program offers specialized areas in substance abuse, conflict resolution, developmental disabilities, mental health, and family and youth.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Human Services that prepares students for entry-level employment.
  • Minor in Human Services
  • The Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Conflict Resolution is offered through the Human Services Department as well as the Minor in Human Services.
  • The Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Children's Behavioral Health is being offered in conjunction with the Center for Human Development.

The Mat-Su campus provides an AAS in Human Services, which is part of the UAA program and is accredited with the Department of Human Services program.
