Important Updates
Placements During COVID-19
Modifications to practicum requirements are being made by faculty, adjuncts, field instructors, and students to ensure successful completion of the course. The department is currently in communication with Practicum field instructors to adopt a plan for students to implement the remaining practicum hours in a safe environment, and developing strategies on future placements. Due to the unpredictable situation created by COVID-19, the practicum placement process will be slower than usual.
Cohort Model Adopted
The Dept. of Human Services will be moving its academic program to a cohort model, which progresses students as a group through core courses and practica and it is widely used to improve student success through increased continuity of instruction. Updates are being made to practicum scheduling for the 2020-2021 academic year, which will affect all AAS students and some BHS students.
Practicum Changes
- HUMS A295A - Practicum I will be offered only during fall semesters.
- HUMS A295B - Practicum II will be offered only in the spring semesters.

Collaborative Relationship
The human services practice requires multicultural understanding and respect of clients through a collaborative relationship founded upon a developmental model. Specific skills courses are combined with practicum and strengthened through conceptual coursework in human services. Practicum placements provide students agency-based learning experiences directly related to the human services profession. Entrance into the human services practicum requires admission to the degree, successful completion of specified courses, and a recommendation by a human services faculty academic advisor.
