UAA Campus is Open

We are pleased to report the UAA Anchorage campus will open on Wednesday, Dec. 5, following last Friday's earthquake. The Chugiak-Eagle River Campus will remain closed, but classes will resume in alternative locations. Students should check UAOnline for their new meeting location. As you return to campus, we encourage you to check the web page for important safety tips and resources about how to submit work requests to facilities for repairs. "Mountain View: The Context for Community Policing" by Antonia Moras

Like many other police departments, the Anchorage Police Department (APD) is moving from an emphasis on traditional law enforcement practices toward community-oriented policing, an approach that relies on officer-initiated efforts to reduce crime and public disorder. This article provides background an an overview of the context in which Anchorage Police Department has attempted to implement community policing in the Mountain View neighborhood of north Anchorage.

Community policing is a philosophy of policing that requires police officers to act with increased levels of autonomy and professional discretion to solve problems and to develop partnerships with the community. This article summarizes the results of interviews with Anchorage Police Department officers assigned to a community policing project in the Mountain View neighborhood of north Anchorage.
