Sexual Violence

Estimates of Alaskan women's experiences with sexual violence between 2010 and 2020 are presented below. These estimates are separated into sub-components:

Unwanted/uninvited sexual situations (composite)

This is separated into three sub-components:

  • women being forced to act sexually
  • sexual harassment
  • nonconsensual sexual contact

Coercive sexual activity (composite)

This is separated into two subcomponents:

  • coerced sex using lies, threats, and/or persistant demands
  • coerced sex using influence or authority.

Sexual assault (composite)

This is separated into two subcomponents:

  • alcohol- or drug-involved sexual assault
  • forcible sexual assault

Finally, if any of these types of situations were reported, they were classified as experiencing any sexual violence (composite). Click on the buttons below to see lifetime reported violence and past year reported violence.

Notes. In prior AVS tables and reports, the term "sexual violence" has been used to refer to sexual assault (both alcohol- and drug-involved and forcible). In this table, those behaviors are labeled as "sexual assault" and the term "sexual violence" is used as a broader term which includes any of the above unwanted/uninvited sexual situations, coerced sexual activity, and/or sexual assault. The coerced sexual activity questions were not asked in 2015, so estimates for these and the full sexual violence composite cannot be calculated for 2015.
