University of Alaska Anchorage School of Allied Health
UAA School of Allied Health
The mission of the School of Allied Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage is
to educate and develop allied health professionals to serve all Alaskans.
As part of the College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage, the School
of Allied Health is home to training programs and facilities for allied health professionals.
Allied health programs are specifically designed to prepare graduates for work in
rewarding careers in Alaska's rapidly growing health care industry. In addition to
instruction by allied health professionals, most programs provide experiential education
with students working alongside health professionals in real-work situations.
The School of Allied Health also offers continuing educational opportunities for experienced
professionals who are in need of a refresher course or looking to expand their earning
potential in the job field.
Note: The following programs have moved to the School of Preventive and Therapeutic Sciences: Dental Hygiene, Dietetics & Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapist
Assistant, Speech-Language Pathology, and Health, Physical Education, & Recreation.
Students in the medical assisting program at the UAA College of Health benefit from a unique collaboration with the Interprofessional Health Sciences Simulation Center.
The School of Allied Health celebrates its summer graduates with a memorable pinning ceremony on July 27, 2023, at the Edward & Cathryn Rasmuson Hall of the University of Alaska Anchorage.
During their first in-person lab of the semester, UAA Medical Assisting Program students learned how to sterilize medical equipment. While most courses have shifted to alternate delivery this fall, in-person labs are still being offered for some fields in which hands-on learning is considered critical.
A new degree in surgical technology, launched this year, helps meet an industry need in Alaska while offering further academic options for College of Health students.
