Director's Welcome
Greetings and welcome to the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). As the new Director of the School of Nursing, I was drawn to UAA because of its vision to be a leader in the transformation of nursing in Alaska and beyond. The School of Nursing has a commitment to providing access to quality education with diverse clinical learning experiences through undergraduate and graduate programs to students across Alaska with 15 different program delivery locations. The faculty and staff at the School of Nursing have chosen to be a part of this diverse and caring community because they believe in the mission of promoting the health and well-being of people and communities by fostering excellence and innovation in nursing education, research, and healthcare.
Students at the UAA School of Nursing will have opportunities to learn among knowledgeable experts and have the opportunity to fully engage in the experience of connecting with these nursing leaders, clinicians, teachers, and researchers who are committed to improving health and health care.
Nurses have always been on the frontlines, and in these times of challenge through the COVID-19 pandemic, the work that nurses do is increasingly recognized as important and integral to health and healing. The world has seen how nurses respond with care and compassion, commitment, and expertise. Nurses are increasingly visible in their extraordinary efforts, facing daily challenges with bravery, courage, resilience, and professionalism.
We congratulate the students who have joined this vibrant and intellectual community and welcome those who want to pursue nursing as a potential career path to consider the UAA School of Nursing. Nursing is a remarkable profession and the UAA School of Nursing is an outstanding place to study, work and serve the citizens of Alaska.
With Warm and Welcoming Regards,
Carla M. Hagen, PhD, MPH, RN
