Scholarships

Several scholarships are available for BSW and MSW majors. All social work students are encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by UAA, the College of Health, and UA, in addition to those that are administered by the School of Social Work.

To apply for scholarships at UAA, submit the UA General Application from the UA Scholarship Portal between Oct. 1st and Feb. 15 to be considered for scholarships in the upcoming academic year.

Phi Alpha Honor Society

The Phi Alpha honor society offers several scholarships for members. The deadline is set by Phi Alpha.

Thorsness Family Scholarship

The Thorsness Family Scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition and other related educational expenses to students enrolled in the BSW or MSW program at UAA. The award amount is $1,000. A 2.0 GPA is required for BSW students, while a 3.0 GPA is required for MSW students. Applications are due by Feb. 15.

COH Administration Scholarship

Scholarship amount varies, which would be used toward tuition and fees. MSW and BSW students may apply. Applications are due by Feb. 15.

Dove Kull Memorial Scholarship

A $500 minimum award, which is available to fully admitted BSW and MSW students at UAA. A 2.0 GPA is required. Applications are due by Feb. 15.

Ella Craig/NASW Social Work Scholarship

The award amount varies, which is available to MSW students. A 2.5 GPA is required. Applications are due by Feb. 15.

Verne LaMarr Lyons Memorial MSW Scholarships

This scholarship is awarded to MSW candidates who demonstrate an interest in or have experience with health/mental health practice and have a commitment to working in African American communities. The deadline is set by NASW Foundation.

Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarships

This scholarship is awarded to MSW candidates interested in working with American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations or in public voluntary nonprofit agency settings. Up to 10 scholarships can be awarded, where each recipient can be awarded up to $4,000. The deadline is set by NASW Foundation.
