Interprofessional Education

Interprofessional education is defined as formal, planned "occasions when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care" (Barr, 2005). In our context, interprofessional education is expanded to include collaboration between two or more academic units and/or disciplines.

In the College of Health, the ultimate goals of interprofessional education are to:

  • increase collaboration between disciplines (professions)
  • improve service delivery
  • reduce errors in health and human services
  • promote health and better systems of care
  • prepare students for high demand careers that require effective team work.
