Hospitality Administration

Not only are graduates prepared for work in the foodservice, hospitality, and tourism industries in Alaska, but they are ready to advance to middle- and upper-level management positions due to their formal training.

Program Overview

With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hospitality Administration, students have the business management skills and hospitality finesse for a career in the hotel and restaurant industry. Career possibilities include professional management in restaurants, hotels, resorts, hospitals, institutions, conferencing and catering, and recreation management.

The bachelor’s degree generally takes four to five years to complete. In addition to General Education Requirements (GERs), students complete a culinary core on campus and a business core and a hospitality administration core online.

The capstone is a 600-hour Alaska internship that provides hands-on hotel and restaurant operations management during the final year of study.  Arranged by the department, the internship is a paid work experiences at an approved hotel/restaurant site.

The upper division courses are available online from UAA. For those students who want to complete the program out of state, UAA has agreements with the University of Nevada Las Vegas and Northern Arizona University.
