Note on Distance Ed

Classification of UAA courses is how much of the course is "location based":

  • Traditional courses- 51% or more location-based delivery 
  • Blended courses - up to 50% location-based
  • eLearning courses - No location-based delivery

eLearning courses (also known as distance education or online courses) vary. Check with your department contact about how the course has been advertised to the students and what the expectations are in terms of:

  • Regular online class meetings via Zoom or other web conferencing tool (synchronous delivery)
  • No scheduled class meetings; content delivered online via Blackboard Learning Management System (asynchronous delivery)
  • Non-mandatory online class meetings via web conferencing
  • Combination of synchronous and asynchronous delivery

UAA eLearning: Distance Student Services provides student and faculty support for distance classes. Course design and delivery help for faculty is available at Academic Innovations & eLearningYour campus or college may have additional support staff for faculty teaching online (e.g. an instructional designer).
