Trail Guides

Trail Guides are online modules to lead UAA faculty through the process of designing and delivering effective online courses. You will be able to complete these modules at your own pace on the AI&e website. The Trail Guides feature UAA faculty using best practices, creating transformative courses, and discussing their own development as online instructors. In addition, the guides give UAA-specific information to help faculty master university expectations.

View the first Trail Guide module at Course Design & Development: Set the Route. Additional modules will be available in 2019-2020.

 Online Teaching Certificate

ROLL offers faculty (all UAA campuses, all levels) experienced in online course design and delivery the opportunity to document that expertise through the AI&e Online Teaching Certificate. This certificate acknowledges faculty mastery to:

  • Design an accessible, outcomes-driven online course
  • Teach an online course with regular and substantive interaction
  • Engage and support UAA's diverse students in online courses
  • Leverage UAA resources and technologies for the above outcomes

ROLL offers workshops and other training opportunities to help faculty meet the certificate requirements.  Contact the ROLL Activity Directory, Rob Carrillo, if you are interested in pursuing this certification.

Innovative Design Studio

The Innovative Design Studio (LIB 210) supports audio and video production for UAA courses, as well as creative technology-based learning solutions.

Please contact AI&e Multimedia Services to request recording time, a studio tour, or a consultation on other teaching technology uses. Faculty can also schedule studio time to work with students to create media for eWolf ePortfolios and other projects.

Accessibility

ROLL provides limited video captioning for instructors using the Online Master Course Shells (OMCs). OMC content is captioned as part of the development process, but this service supports individual instructors as they adapt the OMCs.

Please contact the ROLL Instructional Designer, Kathryn Schild, to request captioning for your course sections.

Conference Support

ROLL has provided conference support for faculty to share grant projects with the greater educational community and for faculty and staff to research national best practices. Funded conferences include:

  • Dr. Maria Williams, "Strategies for Decolonizing the University Culture", AISA 2017
  • Molly Orheim, Participant, NASPA 2017
  • Dr. Cindy Trussell and Katie Walker, AHEAD "Equity and Excellence - Access in Higher Education," 2018
