Meet The ROLL Team

The ROLL Team has 30+ years of collective experience in academic innovations and works to support faculty and improve student learning outcomes at UAA. Read on to learn more about our expertise.

Dr. Heather Nash, Project Director

Dr. Heather Nash, ROLL Project Director
At the University of Alaska Anchorage, I have two key roles. One is as Associate Director of Academic Innovation & eLearning, with my area of responsibility being instructional design services. I am also the Project Director for UAA's Robust Online Learning grant and hold the rank of Assistant Professor of Adult Education.

In the world of eLearning, I have  a personal motto: There is no one true way. Plenty of designers and instructors become invested in a particular way of designing, developing, and delivering classes; however, we get better results and happier instructors and students if we start from our goals and are flexible with our thinking and methods. Rob Carrillo, ROLL Activity Director

Rob Carrillo, ROLL Activity Director
I am the ROLL Grant's Title III Activity Director on a dynamic team supporting the UAA educational community by helping to develop and deploy Online Master Courses. While new to UAA, I served as the Title III Activity Director at the Ilisagvik Tribal College in Utqiagvik (Barrow) for the past 15 years. I love the synergy that teamwork and cooperation create. Gathering ideas and building consensus for a shared goal are what really motivate me.

When I'm not working, I like to spend my time with my wife Anna. We enjoy traveling, visiting family and volunteering for our favorite causes.

Dr. Kathryn Schild, Instructional Designer

I also coordinate with Student Affairs as appropriate and collaborate with the Title III project team regarding professional development for faculty involved in the Title III project.

As a lifelong Alaskan I was born and raised in Juneau, AK and now reside in Anchorage, AK with my wife and two sons. My passion is composed of spending quality time with my family and the outdoors. I enjoy hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, camping, and anything else that requires to go off the beaten path. Discover more facts about living and working in Alaska at Keith Berggren ePortfolio.

 Louis Butler

Louise Butler, ROLL Student Success Technician
I provide support to the Project and Activity Directors with grant administration; and help with budgeting, purchasing, maintaining grant records, and assisting with grant compliance.

My life is surrounded by family:  Four children, four grandchildren, and a rat-like dog (Bubbles--because you can't say it angry). When I am not working or enjoying my family,  I like road trips, snowmobiling, and leisurely walks. I have a passion for food--growing, cooking, and eating; and I also enjoy painting or reading a good book.
