Community-Campus Partnerships
on an EPIC Scale
jessica barlow
Jessica Barlow is the Vice President of the Educational Partnership for Innovation in Communities (EPIC) Network, and oversees efforts to grow the network internationally in collaboration with national and international agencies. She is a professor in the School for Speech, Language and Hearing and is the Executive Director of the Center for Regional Sustainability (CRS) at San Diego State University. She serves on the university’s climate action planning council and senate sustainability committee. Within CRS, Barlow oversees the Sage Project, a replication of the EPIC Model. Barlow also has led sustainability-focused study abroad programs for students and curricular workshops for faculty.
Join us as Dr. Barlow talks to us about the EPIC Model - an award-winning university-community partnership framework that works at a large scale to advance the needs of communities while training the next generation workforce and leadership.  EPIC programs work within administrative structures of universities and communities to achieve outcomes, advancing the needs of both communities and students. An EPIC partnership fosters community innovation and leverages the largely untapped expertise concentrated in a university towards real community issues, all while giving students the applied learning experiences they crave.
