Safety and Emergency Information


Call 911 for emergencies or crimes on all campuses

Preplan with your class for emergencies:

  • Enter the phone number for the Campus Police in your cell phone: 786-1120 (main campus and UC)
  • Know the emergency exits from your classroom
  • Locate the fire extinguishers in your classroom
  • Sign up for weather alerts as described below
  • Set up an alternative communication plan for your class - examples are: Blackboard, email, phone tree, texting

In event of Emergency

  • UAA Main Campus and University Center
    • Campus Police at 786-1120 assist with car trouble, locked classroom, safety escort, and disruptive students
    • Anchorage Police at 911 assist with car accidents, crime, medical emergencies, and threats/violence
  • All other campuses
    • Call 911

Weather alerts and closures

  • In the event of bad weather, UAA announces any potential closures by 6 a.m. for day classes and by 4 p.m. for evening classes.
  • Sign up for alerts to receive an email, phone call, or text message about UAA closures. On the page, click on the UA Alerts Users Portal button. You can also disable alerts on this page. Directions for signing up for alerts.
  • The main UAA web page contains current closure notices and local radio stations also carry announcements.
