Dr Shannon's fields of study are the history of US foreign relations, the modern Islamic world, and international feminism.She is an active member of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR). She is currently working on her first book, Veiled Intentions: Islam, Global Feminism, and the US Foreign Policy Since 1979, which examines how Americans' concerns about the rights of women in Islamic countries have been integrated into US foreign policy in recent decades.
