This is the first semester course in the sequence.
The course investigates the chemistry of carbon compounds including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, and arenes. It also discusses physical properties, nomenclature, synthesis, reactions, reaction mechanisms, and stereochemistry of these compounds.
The prerequisite for this course is CHEM A106 with a minimum grade of C. This prerequisites is strictly enforced.
CHEM A323L is the laboratory component of this course but is either taken concurrently with CHEM A322 or after CHEM A322 has been completed. The latter is advised.
