UAA Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony---Sept. 8th

 

UAA CI Plaque Unveiled

CI Director Paul Dunscomb and Consul General Gao Zhansheng together unveil the plaque for the UAA Confucius Institute at a small ceremony attended by Education Consul Shao, Provost Mike Driscoll, Dean of the College of Business and Public Policy Bear Baker and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences James Liszka. A champagne toast was offered to the long, successful and fruitful career of the new enterprise.

Opening Ceremony

The UAA Confucius Institute celebrated its grand opening with a special ceremony on Tuesday September 8, 2009. Consul General Gao Zhansheng and Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan joined CI Director Paul Dunscomb, UAA Provost Michael Driscoll and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences James Liszka in welcoming the Confucius Institute to UAA and dedicating it to its mission of promoting Chinese language and culture. Tim Smith, chair of the music department, performed the song Autumn Moon Over the Calm Lake and Dr. J. D. Zhang of San Francisco demonstrated his mastery of the Chinese magic and the Sichuan Opera art of “Change of Face.”
