CAFE Oh Wow (COW) Awards

Deadline: March 25

Is there a faculty member who's gone above and beyond in their teaching and/or in supporting their colleagues? Nominate them for a COW! The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) is seeking nominations for the CAFE Oh Wow (COW) awards for AY 2023-2024. We will have two categories of awards: teaching excellence and excellence in promoting the success of fellow UAA faculty.

CAFE Call for Proposals

Do you have an approach to teaching, learning, career development, wellness, faculty experience, or research/creative activity that you would like to share with other faculty at UAA? Do you have a topic or series that you would like offered? Please share your ideas with us!

We want to hear from faculty about what are the most pressing topics to them and how we can address them together. We are looking for proposals from innovative faculty who can share their approaches and experience across the UAA community. And if there's a colleague that you think should lead a session, fill out the form and suggest them as a speaker!

Please submit this form multiple times if you have more than one idea. This form will be open throughout the rest of spring semester, but we are always open to talking about ideas throughout the year. If you have additional comments or suggestions, please share them in the form or email CAFE Faculty Fellow Mary Dallas Allen at mdallen7@alaska.edu.

Help Resources

For assistance preparing your courses for the new semester, check out the guidance under Teaching Resources and Learning TechnologiesIf these don’t answer your questions, please contact us! Due to a transitional reduction in capacity, AI&e instructional support will give priority to new instructors, meeting accessibility requirements, selecting appropriate tools/activities to meet course goals, ePortfolio, and remote test proctoring (RPNow).

If you need further assistance with Blackboard functions (including course copies, developmental shells, editing and publishing courses, and troubleshooting) or other UAA core tools, please contact IT Services. Kenai Peninsula College instructors should start with the KPC Educational Technology Team.

Visit our Help page to sign up for a course design or RPNow testing consultation.

Embracing UAA's Role as a Community Partner

Since 2006, UAA has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “Community Engaged Institution.”

UAA uses the Carnegie Foundation's definition of community engagement for our work with communities: "Community Engagement describes the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity."

The Center for Community Engagement and Learning serves as a central locus for the intersection of student learning, faculty research, and community engagement.
